Miscellaneous Headlines and Comments

HUD providing $652 million more for Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts
in Texas
(
HousingWire
by Ben Lane
). With parts of Texas still recovering from the damage caused by
Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Monday that it is granting an additional $652 million to aid in the recovery. The new funding will supplement the more than $5 billion that HUD originally gave to Texas to
recover from Harvey.

Comment:

It is amazing that this hurricane in Houston – from years ago – that its impact is still being felt. Wow!

Is Zillow’s move into buying, selling and financing homes a betrayal?
(
HousingWire
by Julian Hebron
). Zillow again dragged the entire housing sector into the future
with their 2018 earnings announcement last week by becoming the Netflix of homes. But is the company’s move into buying, selling and financing homes a betrayal to real estate agents and loan officers?

Comment:

Well… Zillow says that their revenue today is still mostly from agent and lender leads, which they plan to double,
and they also plan to go big on buying and selling homes, and finance a good chunk of those sales.

Is their statement supposed to make loan officers feel any better? Freedom Mortgage is another entity that preys
upon loan officers. But they get away with it. And I predict that Zillow will continue to get away with it also – because if a loan officer gets good leads, they will put up with some of this behavior.

The Gift of Love.
“But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses. By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned.”

2
Corinthians 6:4,6

Comment:

A segment of our society desperately yearning for an expression of true love is found among those growing older,
and particularly when they suffer from pangs of loneliness. The chill wind of dying hopes and vanished dreams whistles through the ranks of the elderly and those who approach the declining side of the summit of life. “What they need in the loneliness of their
older years is … what we needed in the uncertain years of our youth; a sense of belonging, an assurance of being wanted, and the kindly ministrations of loving hearts and hands” (Thoughts… for One Hundred Days, 222). So wrote Elder Richard L. Evans some years
ago.

(A Future as Bright as Your Faith, Thomas S. Monson, p. 64).

Make it a great day! Let’s get after it.
